RAJSHAHI, April 29 (V7N)— Emphasizing the urgency of energy security, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. SM Abdur Razzak said Bangladesh must invest in research and innovation to discover and utilize alternative energy sources.

Speaking as chief guest at the PSREF Industrial Energy Challenge: Designing a Green Transition award ceremony, Dr. Razzak noted that electricity and fuel are the nation’s driving forces. He highlighted per capita electricity consumption as a key indicator of development, pointing out that technologically advanced countries achieve higher consumption through education and research.

The competition, jointly organized by CPD, IEES, and RUET, featured eight teams from engineering universities presenting renewable energy projects. Ever Fresh won the champion award, while Waste‑Zero and Greenery Grid secured runner‑up positions.

The program was presided over by Prof. Dr. Nurul Islam, Director of IEES and Dean of Mechanical Engineering. Other attendees included Prof. Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Dean of Civil Engineering, and Md. Mehedi Hasan Shamim, Research Associate at CPD, alongside RUET faculty, students, and organizers.

Dr. Razzak concluded that ensuring energy security through renewable sources is essential for national development and technological progress.
