Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N) — The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has granted bail to former Narayanganj mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in two murder cases linked to the July 24 movement.
The bail was granted on Thursday by a bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher in cases filed with Siddhirganj Police Station.
Selina Hayat Ivy was arrested on May 9 last year from her residence, Chunka Kutir, in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj. She was subsequently shown arrested in multiple cases, including three murder and two attempted murder cases related to the anti-discrimination student-public movement.
On November 9 last year, the High Court granted her bail in those five cases. However, the state filed appeals against the bail orders, which are currently pending before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
On the same day she secured bail in those cases, fresh applications were filed to show her arrested in five additional cases, which were approved. Later, on February 26, she obtained six-month interim bail in those cases as well, prompting further appeals by the state.
The Chamber Court subsequently suspended her bail and forwarded the matters to a regular bench of the Appellate Division, which is scheduled to deliver its order on May 3.
Meanwhile, police sought to show her arrested in two additional murder cases filed at Siddhirganj Police Station on September 11, 2024, and June 30, 2025. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Narayanganj approved these applications on March 2 and April 12 respectively.
In the latest development, the High Court has granted her bail in these two cases as well.
