Dhaka, May 22 (V7N) – The capital’s raw markets have entered an Eid-ul-Azha festive mood ahead of the holiday, leading to a noticeable drop in buyers despite a stable supply of goods.
Traders said the number of customers has declined significantly on Friday as many city residents have already started leaving Dhaka for the holidays.
Prices of most vegetables have dropped by 15 to 20 taka per kilogram compared to last week. Most vegetables are currently selling at 70 to 80 taka per kg, although tomato prices remain relatively high at around 80 taka per kg.
In the protein market, broiler chicken prices have increased slightly, while the prices of layer and golden varieties have started to decline. Egg prices have also fallen by 10 to 15 taka per dozen due to reduced demand.
Market sellers said the increased supply of goods has helped stabilize consumer prices in many segments.
However, fish prices in the capital have shown a slight upward trend amid reduced supply. Traders noted that as residents begin leaving Dhaka for the Eid holiday, sales in city markets are slowing down, while demand is expected to shift to district-level markets.
Sellers added that during the Qurbani season, beef and mutton dominate household consumption, leading to a natural decline in demand for fish—except for shrimp and a few other varieties.
