DHAKA, May 12 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the Bangladesh Police into a modern, technology-driven and people-friendly force to strengthen the rule of law, ensure public safety, and create an investment-friendly environment.
Speaking as chief guest at a special conference of senior police officials at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium, the minister said: “A professional and efficient police force is indispensable for safeguarding democracy and establishing justice.” He stressed that ending enforced disappearances, killings, and extrajudicial deaths remains a major government priority.
Referring to the 19-point programme of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Vision 2030, Salahuddin Ahmed said the government aims to uphold the rule of law under the slogan “Bangladesh First.” He praised the professionalism of Bangladesh Police, particularly their contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and maintaining security in the Rohingya camps.
The minister urged police personnel to serve with patriotism, honesty, and integrity to help build a prosperous Bangladesh. He also listened to demands raised by senior officials and assured that the government would implement them gradually, considering financial capacity and priorities. He emphasized that improved police performance and professionalism would be key to fulfilling many of these demands.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, Additional IGP (CID) Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir, and IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain were present. Senior officials including Additional IGPs, DIGs, Additional DIGs, and Superintendents of Police also attended the conference.
