Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) — Tarique Rahman has said that Bangladesh has many talented young people who can create world-class innovations if given proper opportunities, stressing the need to prevent talent drain and nurture local talent to face future challenges.
He made the remarks while addressing a workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence” at the Dhaka University Senate Building on Tuesday (May 12).
The Prime Minister said the government is taking multiple initiatives to modernize and make the country’s higher education system more relevant to current global demands.
According to him, an initial plan has been taken to strengthen coordination between universities in divisional cities and local educational and business institutions so that students can gain practical skills and hands-on experience alongside academic learning.
He also announced plans to encourage science fairs, innovation fairs, and product sourcing fairs in universities and colleges across the country. In addition, the government is planning to make technical and practical education mandatory from the school level.
Referring to rapid technological transformation worldwide, Tarique Rahman said fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, genetic engineering, biotechnology, cybersecurity, quantum computing, big data, and nanotechnology are reshaping the global economy and employment landscape.
He noted that modern education is no longer confined within the traditional boundaries of schools, colleges, or universities, adding that interdisciplinary learning is becoming increasingly important.
“Today, data science is being connected with biology, and engineering is being linked with sociology,” he said.
The Prime Minister further stated that the government aims to build an education system where every student can fully develop their potential and contribute to the future progress of Bangladesh.
