Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) — Zahed Ur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister, has said that although there may be an opportunity to cancel the trade agreement with the United States, the government does not intend to take that path.

He made the remarks on Tuesday (May 12) during a briefing at the Secretariat regarding the progress of various government activities.

The adviser said he had already discussed the issue of reviewing the agreement with Tarique Rahman. According to him, the government will evaluate the agreement in consultation with experts from relevant sectors and ministries to determine whether certain conditions can be revised.

During the briefing, Zahed Ur Rahman also addressed the ongoing measles situation in the country and announced that an investigation committee would be formed involving state representatives, institutions, and international organizations.

“More than 400 children have died due to measles. This is a serious issue,” he said.

He added that the investigation would focus on the causes behind the measles vaccine shortage and whether there had been any negligence in vaccine administration.

“If evidence of gross negligence is found, those responsible will definitely be punished,” the adviser said.

The briefing also revealed that the government has undertaken a modernization project for the Eastern Refinery Limited, which has a fuel processing capacity of 3 million tons.
