Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N)- Opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the 11-party alliance has embarked on a journey to realize the rights of the people and will return home only after achieving those rights.
He made the remarks at the inaugural rally of the 11-party alliance's long march towards Chittagong at Shapla Chattar in the capital at 7 am on Saturday (September 5).
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the people of Bangladesh would not tolerate extortionists and are already fed up with extortion. Referring to the recent arrest and alleged mistreatment of Sifat, he said, "I do not support Sifat's recent arrest and abuse. But the reasons behind his protest and outburst must be addressed. Otherwise, 180 million people of this country could become Sifat."
He said the people would make no concessions in their struggle to establish their rights.
"If there is any obstacle on the long march, the march will move forward by overcoming those obstacles. We have set out to realize the rights of the people. We will fight for people's rights equally on the streets and in Parliament," he said.
Following the rally, the 11-party alliance's convoy began its journey towards Laldighi in Chittagong via the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
