Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N)- The 11-party alliance has begun a long march towards Chittagong with a six-point demand, including implementation of the referendum verdict, control of rising commodity prices and an immediate resolution to the ongoing energy crisis.
On Saturday (September 5), following an inaugural rally at Shapla Chattar at 7 am, a convoy of leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance set out for Laldighi.
Speakers at the inaugural rally said the elected government was deceiving the people by failing to implement promises made before the election. They also accused the government of failing to deal effectively with the deteriorating law-and-order situation and the energy crisis.
The alliance leaders said six days should have been sufficient to implement the referendum verdict, but even after six months, the people's mandate has allegedly not been implemented. They warned that the people would respond to what they described as the government's disregard for their verdict at an appropriate time.
They further alleged that the government was politicizing the administration and creating an environment of fear by restricting people's right to speak.
The 11-party leaders also expressed concern over shortages of electricity, gas, fuel and fertilizer, as well as rising prices of essential commodities, saying ordinary people are suffering as a result.
