Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a seven-day program to observe the martyrdom anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman, scheduled from May 25 to June 1, according to party leaders.

The announcement was made by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a press briefing following a joint meeting held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Monday (May 18) morning.

Rizvi said the program will span seven days, though it may be temporarily paused for two days due to the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, with alternative discussion meetings or related events planned during the break.

He also said the party believes the government is attempting to implement its pre-election commitments through various development initiatives across the country. He further mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is reportedly carrying out programs such as canal excavation to support agricultural self-sufficiency.

Criticizing past political promises, Rizvi said earlier administrations had made unrealistic commitments, including pledges to sell rice at Tk 10 per kg, which were not fulfilled.

He added that despite criticism from opposing political parties, BNP believes public welfare-oriented programs are being implemented effectively. Paying tribute to Ziaur Rahman, Rizvi said the former president played a key role in strengthening national independence and sovereignty and restoring hope during a difficult period in the country’s history. He also highlighted the continued political efforts of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the party’s democratic struggle.
