Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N) — Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim, Ameer of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, on Wednesday pledged to give priority to Sharia law in state governance if his party comes to power. He made the remarks while reading the party’s manifesto at the central office in Purana Paltan in Dhaka.
Rezaul Karim said the party is committed to ensuring a safe and festive environment that allows all citizens to practice their religious beliefs freely. Responding to recent increases in political and social violence, he promised effective and visible measures to protect tolerance and harmony.
Highlighting social welfare initiatives, the Ameer said that housing for female garment workers and the establishment of day care centers for working mothers will be prioritized. He also promised to strengthen legal and social measures to ensure women inherit property according to Sharia law and emphasized that Islam provides the best framework for women’s employment, rights, dignity, and freedom.
Mufti Rezaul Karim further pledged meaningful political representation for the transgender community and non-discriminatory access to healthcare and social security. He also proposed a universal health protection program, subsidized agricultural inputs, and agricultural cards to facilitate access to essential services, alongside a crackdown on illegal syndicates to control commodity prices.
On foreign policy, he stated that the party will work to develop mutual respect and cooperation with neighboring countries and the wider international community.
