Dhaka, Sep 04 (V7N)- National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that despite repeated incidents of torture and persecution against minority communities in the country in the past, fair justice has not been ensured in those cases.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after exchanging greetings on the occasion of Shubh Janmashtami at the Dhakeshwari National Temple premises in the capital on Friday (September 4) morning.
Nahid Islam said various incidents of violence, injustice and atrocities against minority communities have occurred in recent times, but unfortunately, justice has not been ensured for many of those incidents.
He said that following the mass uprising on August 5, strong efforts are underway to end the culture of impunity and establish a strong, impartial and effective judicial system in the country.
The NCP convener said maintaining lasting peace and security is a fundamental national responsibility of everyone, including both the government and opposition.
Although the country is gradually moving toward greater stability, he said state institutions must be strengthened and made more effective to ensure a sustainable democratic system.
Emphasizing communal harmony, Nahid Islam said meaningful and effective democracy cannot be established without genuine communal harmony, mutual respect and goodwill among people of different communities.
He extended greetings to followers of Sanatan religion on the occasion of Janmashtami and expressed his commitment to building an inclusive Bangladesh.
