Kurigram, Feb 04 (V7N) — Referring to Kurigram as the most deprived district of Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday said that development of the country would begin from this region, adding that Kurigram would be made the capital of North Bengal if his party comes to power.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at the Government College Ground in Kurigram around noon.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that an agricultural revolution would be initiated to ensure employment for all. “If agriculture is developed properly, everyone will get work,” he said.
He described Jamaat-e-Islami as the largest party in the 11-party alliance, but stressed that the party does not seek to establish a party-centric or family-based system of governance. “We do not want to establish a party government or a family and clan system. There will be no land tenure system in this country. We want the victory of 18 crore people,” he said.
Referring to the July Movement, the Jamaat Amir said the party would continue its political journey keeping the spirit of the movement in its heart. He alleged that mothers and sisters were attacked during the movement, recalling incidents where women showed courage in the face of repression.
He further claimed that despite the sacrifices made by women during the movement, a political party and the forces aligned with it are now targeting them.
