Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that female leaders and activists of the BNP are being repeatedly attacked and harassed by a rival political party during the ongoing election campaign.
He made the allegations at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Friday, where several affected female party workers were also present.
Rizvi claimed that BNP women activists were beaten while campaigning for party candidates, describing the incidents as part of a broader pattern of intimidation. He alleged that Jamaat-Shibir supporters were involved in both physical and mental harassment of women, using online and offline platforms to threaten BNP female workers.
The BNP leader further alleged that women would be most affected if Jamaat comes to power, pointing out what he described as contradictions in the party’s position on women’s participation in politics. He noted that although women are involved in campaign activities, no female candidates have been nominated for parliamentary seats by the party.
Rizvi also referred to public statements by the Jamaat leadership regarding women’s leadership roles, saying such views raise serious concerns about women’s rights and political participation.
Expressing confidence in public judgment, the senior BNP leader said he hoped that the people of the country would reject politics based on intimidation and discrimination.
No immediate response was available from the accused party regarding the allegations.
