Kushtia, Jan 26 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman vowed to eliminate extortion and uphold public honor during an election rally in Kushtia on Monday.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that those involved in extortion would be held accountable, and if the act is driven by genuine poverty, support would be offered to share sustenance. He emphasized the party’s commitment to protecting the dignity of women and families, stating that mothers and sisters should not be threatened or harmed during the election campaign.
Referring to false legal cases, he asserted, “We have not accused anyone falsely in any case. Each of our eight cases has a single accused, while others have filed hundreds of accusations based on personal grievances, turning justice into a trade.”
The Jamaat Amir also criticized extortion at the Kushtia rice mill, where private rents are being charged from trucks distributing rice to other regions. “Drivers, mill owners—everyone is upset. We will restore dignity and honor to the people. Those who extort will also be able to live with honor once this work is addressed,” he said.
On the upcoming national elections, he urged voters to be vigilant and called for accountability, highlighting the party’s focus on fair governance and ethical leadership.
