Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the Supreme Court verdict restoring the non-partisan caretaker government system will “open new horizons” for the country’s democracy. He described the ruling as the outcome of BNP’s long-standing movement for credible elections.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a Free Medical Services and Health Checkup Camp at Dhaka University on Thursday.
Amir Khasru said the country had to endure “many sacrifices” during the years without a caretaker government. He acknowledged that political parties may have differing opinions regarding the structure of the system but expressed confidence that such issues could be resolved through dialogue.
Addressing questions about the political impact of nominations given to individuals deprived of the BNP’s traditional election symbol, the paddy sheaf, under the Nationalist Coalition Platform (NCP), he said such nominations would not affect BNP’s vote base.
