Dhaka, Aug 29 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that a conspiracy is underway to replace liberal politics with extremist politics in Bangladesh, warning that such a shift would be “extremely harmful” for the country.

He made the remarks while speaking at a publication event at the National Press Club on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul said that if the national elections are not held on time, the door will open for fascism to rise in the country. “Activities are going on both at home and abroad regarding this,” he cautioned.

He also expressed concern that the public remains doubtful about whether elections will take place as scheduled, and alleged that false propaganda is being spread against the BNP by some political parties in the name of reforms.

Highlighting the “15 years of oppression” faced by BNP leaders and activists, including party chairperson Khaleda Zia, Fakhrul said, “This sacrifice must be accepted. We do not want to see Bangladesh as a failed state. We want to establish democracy for the welfare of the people, not just for a handful of groups.”

At the same time, the BNP Secretary General urged party leaders and activists to resist conspiracies through political integrity and to prepare to assume power “through good deeds.”
