Teknaf, Sept 13 (V7N) - Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar has been officially declared free of child marriage and child labour.
The declaration was made at a discussion and reception ceremony held at the auditorium of Teknaf Government Technical School and College on Saturday at 11am. The event also honoured students who achieved GPA-5 in the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, as well as winners of the national children and youth organisation “Notun Kuri.”
The programme was chaired by Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) S. M. Anik Chowdhury. Cox’s Bazar-4 lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest said child marriage and child labour hinder children’s normal development and disrupt their education.
He stressed that preventing the two problems requires not only effective enforcement of the law but also greater social awareness.
UNO S. M. Anik Chowdhury described Teknaf’s declaration as a major achievement and said maintaining the status would require coordinated efforts from the administration, families, educational institutions, elected representatives and the wider community.
He called for continued cooperation from all sections of society to ensure that the upazila remains free of child marriage and child labour.
At the end of the programme, GPA-5 achievers and winners of “Notun Kuri” were presented with commemorative crests and gifts in recognition of their achievements.
