Khagrachhari, July 16 (V7N) – A conflict between two leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in Khagrachhari has escalated into a legal standoff, with both individuals filing general diaries (GDs) against each other at the Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station. The incidents, which unfolded within a span of 24 hours, have raised serious concerns about internal disputes, alleged corruption, and threats to personal security within the party’s local leadership.

The two individuals involved are Monjila Sultana Jhuma, the NCP’s Southern Regional Organizer and an elected member of the Khagrachhari District Council, and Md. Russel Sheikh, the Chief Coordinator of NCP’s Guimara Upazila unit and Joint Coordinator of the party’s Khagrachhari District branch.

According to local party sources, the dispute became public on the day Russel Sheikh held a press conference at the Khagrachhari Press Club. During the event, Sheikh accused Sultana of long-standing irregularities committed under the guise of party activities. He alleged that she had misappropriated funds related to a share of lease revenue from the Guimara market, which falls under the control of the Hill District Council’s market fund. Sheikh further claimed that Sultana had diverted projects totaling BDT 16 million (1.6 crore), including 15 metric tons of food grains and multiple development schemes, to her own name for personal gain under the pretense of party-related activities.

Following the press conference, Monjila Sultana filed a general diary at the Sadar Police Station the same day. In her complaint, she stated that Sheikh’s accusations were not only baseless but were also intended to publicly defame her. She specifically pointed to a Facebook post made by Sheikh that morning, which she claimed contained several defamatory and derogatory remarks. Sultana further alleged that after Sheikh’s post, multiple social media accounts began circulating vulgar and defamatory content targeting her.

In response, Russel Sheikh filed a counter-general diary the following day, citing threats and security concerns since the press conference. He stated that following his public statements, he had received multiple threats, making him fear for his personal safety.

When contacted, Monjila Sultana responded by saying, “A few individuals are conspiring against me in an attempt to dismantle the NCP’s presence in Khagrachhari. All the accusations brought against me are entirely false and fabricated. I am currently feeling unsafe, which is why I had to file a GD.”

Russel Sheikh, when asked for a comment, said, “Since I disclosed the allegations in the press, I’ve been receiving continuous threats. I’m now in a state of fear for my safety, and I had no choice but to report the matter.”

Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha confirmed the filing of both GDs. “We are currently investigating the contents of both diaries. Appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” he stated.

This series of events has sparked debate and concern among local political observers, as it highlights deepening rifts within the NCP's district leadership. The outcome of the investigation may have broader implications for the party’s regional stability and public image.
