Narayanganj, May 3, (V7N) — Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former Vice President of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), has warned that some political groups participating in the struggle against authoritarianism are now exhibiting fascist tendencies themselves. He criticized ongoing political thuggery, extortion, and land grabbing across the country, particularly in Narayanganj, stating that these issues remain unresolved despite public protests.

“Those who think they can capture polling stations, stamp ballots, and stuff boxes — their dreams will remain dreams,” Nur said while addressing a rally organized by the Narayanganj District and Metropolitan Youth Rights Council in the BSCIC area on Friday afternoon.

Nur emphasized that in the future, only leaders chosen by the people through fair elections will govern the country. “Our current task is to raise awareness among the public. The call for change made by Gono Odhikar Parishad must reach every citizen,” he stated.

Referring to political accountability, Nur added, “The greater the position, the greater the responsibility. Those in leadership have more opportunity and duty to serve.”

He urged larger opposition parties to learn from history, particularly from the fall of the Awami League regime: “After the fall of fascist Hasina on August 5, all political forces must maintain national unity and solidarity to rebuild Bangladesh and fulfill the aspirations of the people. If any party believes they alone will control the future government and monopolize power — I say to them, take lessons from the downfall of the Awami League. The people of this country fear no one.”

He highlighted that over the past 16 years, the people — especially students, workers, and the common masses — have faced brutal repression but stood their ground. “The people will not allow any new form of fascism to take root in Bangladesh again,” he warned.

The rally was presided over by Sheikh Sabbir Hossain Raj, President of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Youth Rights Council. Among the speakers were Faruk Hasan, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of Gono Odhikar Parishad; central leaders Wahidur Rahman Milky and Abul Khair Shanto; Engineer Nahid, President of Narayanganj District Gono Odhikar Parishad; General Secretary Akhtar Hossain; Youth Rights Council General Secretary Arian Shipon; and Organizing Secretary Tuhin Ahmed Joy.
