DHAKA, April 8 (V7N) – Bangladesh has reiterated its request to extradite deposed Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal from India, both sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal, during high-level talks in New Delhi today.
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman held meetings with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval following his arrival in the Indian capital, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh foreign ministry. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah were also present.
Discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations across multiple sectors and reviewing regional and international developments. Dr Rahman emphasized that the newly elected BNP government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, would pursue a “Bangladesh First” foreign policy based on mutual trust, respect, and reciprocal benefit.
He thanked India for apprehending the suspected killers of Shaheed Osman Hadi, noting that both sides agreed the arrested individuals would be returned to Bangladesh under the extradition treaty. The Indian side also indicated that visa services for Bangladeshis, particularly for medical and business purposes, would be eased in the coming weeks.
Dr Rahman expressed appreciation for India’s recent supply of diesel and requested an increase in diesel and fertilizer exports. Minister Puri said the Indian government would consider the request positively. Both sides agreed to continue consultations on key bilateral issues to further strengthen cooperation.
