Dhaka, Aug 16 (V7N)- A severe gas crisis has hit CNG filling stations across the capital, leaving drivers waiting in long queues for hours without getting fuel. In many areas, filling stations have been forced to close because of low gas pressure and supply disruptions.
The crisis intensified from the early hours of Sunday (August 16). Most CNG stations across Dhaka remained closed or displayed ‘No Gas’ signs in front of their pumps.
At some stations, drivers waited for several hours hoping to refuel, while others were turned away because of insufficient gas pressure.
Low- and middle-income drivers have been among the worst affected. Drivers of CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and ride-sharing vehicles said they are unable to make regular trips because they cannot obtain gas on time.
The prolonged wait at filling stations is also reducing the number of passenger trips they can complete each day, resulting in a significant drop in their daily earnings.
Drivers said the situation has placed them under additional financial pressure, as they must meet the fixed amounts payable to vehicle owners while also trying to cover their household expenses.
The ongoing gas shortage has therefore created difficulties not only for CNG station operators but also for a large number of drivers and people dependent on the capital's transport sector.
