DHAKA, JUL, 23 (V7N) – A medical team from Singapore General Hospital visited the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) today to provide specialized treatment to those injured in the aircraft crash at Milestone School and College on Monday.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Director of NIBPS, held a press briefing this afternoon, stating that the Singaporean medical team would continue to observe patients for a few more days. He highlighted that the visiting doctors meticulously reviewed each injury case and made important decisions regarding treatment. "As the condition of the patients is changing every hour, the medical team will review the treatment in every 12 hours and treatment will continue according to that decision," he explained. Dr. Nasir Uddin added that discussions regarding the duration of the Singaporean team's stay or sending injured patients abroad for treatment have not yet taken place.
So far, 44 injured individuals have been admitted to NIBPS. These patients have been categorized based on the severity of their injuries: eight are in critical condition, 13 are under Complete Bed Rest (CBR), and 23 are in the intermediate category.
The death toll from the tragic aircraft crash continues to rise. In the early hours of today, a nine-year-old boy named Nafis succumbed to his burn injuries at NIBPS, increasing the confirmed fatalities to 29 according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) as of 4:50 PM today. Nafis's death comes just a day after his sister also passed away from her injuries at the same institute. The DGHS also reported that 69 injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
However, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Tuesday provided an updated figure, stating that the total number of people killed in the jet crash is 31, with 165 injured. This discrepancy in numbers highlights the ongoing fluid nature of the situation and the challenge of confirming precise figures in such a large-scale incident.
