Sylhet, Apr 25 (V7N): A remarkable story of resilience and determination has emerged from Sylhet, where a visually impaired man, Samiranjan Biswas, has risen from being a student to becoming a Braille teacher, inspiring many with his journey of overcoming adversity.
Samiranjan Biswas, who was born into a poor family as the second of six siblings, has been visually impaired since birth. His parents, Subol Biswas and Lolita Rani Biswas, struggled with uncertainty about his future due to his disability and lack of educational opportunities in their locality.
His life changed when his family discovered the Green Disabled Foundation (GDF) in Sylhet through the Sunamganj Bird Eye Hospital. He was admitted to the GDF-DKCF Visually Impaired School in Sylhet, run by the late Rajab Ali Khan Nazib, a visually impaired humanitarian who founded the institution to support children with visual disabilities.
At the institution, Samiranjan received free education, accommodation, and care. The late founder, Rajab Ali Khan Nazib, is remembered for dedicating his life and limited resources to ensuring education, food, medical care, and cultural development for visually impaired students, often acting as a guardian and caregiver.
Samiranjan began his studies in 2006. He gradually progressed through his academic journey, completing his Primary Education Certificate in 2010, Junior School Certificate in 2013 with GPA 3.19, Secondary School Certificate in 2016 with GPA 3.06, and Higher Secondary Certificate in 2018 with GPA 3.00. He later completed his bachelor’s degree from Government Madan Mohan College in Sylhet in 2022.
Despite his academic success, he faced repeated challenges in securing employment due to his visual impairment. After several unsuccessful attempts, he returned to the foundation for additional training and continued his efforts to build a career.
In December 2025, he passed a Bangladesh Betar audition in the folk music category and was recognized as a performer, further showcasing his talent beyond academics.
Eventually, under the initiative of the foundation’s leadership, Samiranjan Biswas was appointed as a Braille teacher at the same institution where he once studied. His appointment marks a significant milestone in his life journey.
Samiranjan expressed his joy and pride at becoming a teacher at his own institution. He said he hopes to share his knowledge with future generations of visually impaired students so they can build independent and dignified lives.
He also expressed his determination that no visually impaired student should be left behind and that they should have equal opportunities to live normal and respectful lives in society.
The Green Disabled Foundation and its officials, along with guardians and well-wishers, have expressed deep appreciation for his achievement and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
The inspiring story of Samiranjan Biswas was written by Tajkira Jannat Sweety, computer operator of the Green Disabled Foundation.
