Rangamati, Dec 30 (V7N) — The process of submitting nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election in Rangamati-299 constituency has officially concluded, with eight candidates filing their nominations within the stipulated deadline.
According to the Rangamati District Returning Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nishat Sharmeen confirmed that a total of 13 nomination papers were sold for the constituency, but only eight were submitted on time. Of these, seven were filed by candidates representing political parties, while one was submitted by an independent candidate. Five potential candidates did not submit their nomination papers within the designated period.
The candidates who have submitted their nomination papers for the Rangamati-299 constituency include Advocate Dipen Dewan from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who also serves as Assistant Secretary for Religious Affairs of the party’s central committee. Advocate Mokhtar Ahmed is contesting from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Alhaj Jasim Uddin, president of Rangamati district unit of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and Maulana Abu Bakar Siddiq, president of the Rangamati district unit of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, have also entered the race. Ashok Talukder, president of Naniarchar upazila unit of the Jatiya Party, is contesting as the party’s candidate. Other candidates include MA Bashar, convener of Gono Odhikar Parishad in Rangamati district, and Jui Chakma, general secretary of the Rangamati district unit of Bangladesh Workers Party. Independent candidate Pahel Chakma has also submitted his nomination.
Meanwhile, independent aspirants Bappi Chakma, Maitri Chakma, Kalyan Chakma, and Abdul Haque Mia did not submit their nomination papers. In addition, Priyo Chakma, joint convener of the Rangamati branch of the NCP, also refrained from filing nomination papers and has instead extended support to the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
Election officials stated that after the scrutiny of nomination papers, a list of valid candidates will be published. The final phase of the process, including withdrawal of candidacies and allocation of electoral symbols, is expected to further clarify the electoral landscape in the Rangamati-299 constituency ahead of the upcoming national election.
