Pabna, Dec 23 (V7N) — A protest sit-in was held in Pabna against what organizers described as nationwide mob violence, arson, vandalism, looting, attacks on journalists, and incidents of people being beaten or burned to death, including alleged attacks on cultural institutions such as Udichi and Chhayanaut and media outlets like Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.

The hour-long protest took place on Monday (December 22) at around 11:00 am in front of the Press Club on Abdul Hamid Road in the city. The program was organized at the call of cultural activist Mirza Rana.

Speakers at the gathering strongly condemned the ongoing violence across the country, alleging enforced disappearances, killings, looting, arson, and the creation of instability through organized mob activities. They warned that such actions were pushing the country toward chaos and lawlessness.

The speakers also announced that tougher protest programs would be launched in the future, involving people from all walks of life, if the violence and repression were not brought to an immediate end.

Among those present at the protest were cultural activists Bhaskar Chowdhury, Sirajul Islam Hira, Firoz Khandaker, Dibakar Chakraborty, Timir Haider, Abdul Hafiz Ratan, Biplob Bhattacharjee, Mamun Sabbir, along with representatives of various cultural organizations and members of civil society in Pabna.

The protesters called for the protection of freedom of expression, cultural institutions, and the safety of journalists, urging authorities to take effective measures to stop mob violence and restore stability across the country.
