Rajshahi, Dec 21 (V7N) — The death of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, sparked intense unrest across Rajshahi, with protests breaking out immediately after the news spread.

On Thursday night, leaders and activists of July Mancha, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a protest at the city’s Shaheb Bazar Zero Point. Later, students from Rajshahi University joined the demonstration in a procession, amplifying the scale of the protest.

As tensions escalated, protesters moved to Kumarpara in the city, where the abandoned office of the Rajshahi City Awami League was demolished using a bulldozer. The office had previously been partially demolished on August 5 last year following the fall of the Awami government. This time, however, protesters completely razed the structure to the ground in protest against the killing of Osman bin Hadi.

Meanwhile, on Friday after Juma prayers, leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party, Jubo Shokti, Gano Odhikar Parishad, and Hefazat-e-Islam held a rally in front of the Shaheb Bazar Grand Mosque. The gathering was moderated by Atiqur Rahman, member secretary of the metropolitan NCP, while speeches were delivered by convener Mobasher Ali and several other leaders. Speakers strongly condemned the killing and called for justice, accountability, and an end to political violence.

In addition, following Juma prayers, Rajshahi University also saw a separate protest procession led by RAKSU Vice President Mostakur Rahman Zahid and General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar. The march was organized to protest what demonstrators described as Indian dominance and to express solidarity with the demands raised over Osman bin Hadi’s death.

The protests across Rajshahi highlighted growing public anger and grief, as people from different political and social backgrounds united in condemning the killing and demanding swift and fair justice.
