Rangamati, Dec 08 (V7N) – Concerned citizens in Rangamati city held a human chain on Sunday afternoon demanding protection of the youth from the rise of teen gangs, drug trafficking, and online gambling. The demonstration, organized in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, saw participation from students, journalists, businesspeople, social organizations, and residents from various professions.
The event was presided over by Anwar Al Haque, president of the Rangamati Press Club, with Parvez Mosharraf Hossain and Masud Rana Rubel serving as moderators. Speakers highlighted that once a peaceful city, Rangamati is now facing insecurity due to the increasing dominance of teen gangs in areas such as Reserve Bazar, Kathaltoli, Paurashava, Shantinagar, Tabolchhri, and near college gates.
The demonstrators called for zero tolerance against drug sales, gang culture, extortion, ragging, online casinos, and all forms of social corruption, stressing that those responsible must be brought under the law. Among the participants were MP candidate Advocate Mokhtar Ahmed, BNP organizational secretary Saiful Islam Shakil, Rangamati Press Club president Anwar Al Haque, cricket board councillor Abu Sadat Sayem, and various other civic leaders, social activists, and journalists.
The participants outlined four key demands: regular police operations to curb teen gangs, strict action against drug networks including yaba, ice, and marijuana, increased recreational, cultural, and creative opportunities for youth, and ongoing awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. Organizers emphasized that strict enforcement of the law is essential to restore safety and security in Rangamati city.
