Mongla, Dec 06 (V7N) – International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor (Administration) Gazi M H Tamim has said that Bangladesh must ensure honest and capable leadership in the upcoming national election to prevent the country from slipping back into fascism.
International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor (Administration) Gazi M H Tamim on Friday said that the people of Bangladesh had long endured a democracy-deprived environment where citizens were denied their right to vote freely. From national elections to Union Parishad polls, he said, political symbols were used to engineer voterless elections that ultimately established a one-party authoritarian structure in the name of democracy.
Speaking as the chief guest at a reception for meritorious students at Khanjahan Hat in Mithakhali of Mongla, Tamim said that the nation has now emerged from that chapter and must act responsibly in the upcoming election. He urged citizens to choose honest and qualified candidates to ensure that no form of fascism returns through any political leader.
He stressed that the country must not fall back into an era where democratic rights are suppressed, adding that the next election will determine whether the nation can safeguard its democratic aspirations.
The event was organized by the Shahid Maulana Gazi Abu Bakr Siddique (R.) Foundation, with Trust Chairman Zahir Uddin Babor presiding over the program. Among others, Jamaat-e-Islami Bagerhat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and the party’s candidate for the Mongla–Rampal parliamentary constituency, Advocate Maulana Sheikh Abdul Wadud, and Mongla Upazila Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Kohinur Sardar were present.
A total of 29 students from seven educational institutions were honored at the ceremony for their academic achievements. Organizers said the annual event aims to inspire young learners to uphold integrity, moral values, and service to the nation.
