Cox’s Bazar, May 22 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of yaba tablets in a series of anti-narcotics operations in the Ukhiya and Teknaf border areas of Cox’s Bazar, arresting five suspects and confiscating two auto-rickshaws allegedly used for drug transportation.
According to the Ukhiya Battalion, the coordinated operations were conducted on Thursday (May 21) in different areas under its jurisdiction, resulting in the recovery of a total of 1,44,903 yaba tablets. The estimated value of the seized contraband and vehicles is around Tk 4 crore 49 lakh 70 thousand 900.
Lieutenant Colonel Zahirul Islam, commander of the Ukhiya Battalion, confirmed that all arrested individuals were handed over to the respective police stations for legal proceedings.
BGB sources said that in the Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) area, a special patrol team recovered 50,000 yaba tablets and detained two suspects. In separate operations at the Hwaikyang check post, authorities arrested two more individuals and seized 40,000 yaba tablets along with two CNG-run auto-rickshaws used in trafficking.
In another operation at the Shilkhali check post, one suspect was arrested and 4,903 yaba tablets were recovered along with a CNG vehicle. Additionally, a patrol team at the Balukhali BOP seized another 50,000 yaba tablets abandoned by traffickers.
Officials said anti-drug and anti-smuggling operations will continue along the border as part of intensified efforts to curb narcotics trafficking and strengthen border security.
The BGB reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict surveillance and dismantling drug networks operating in the region.
