London, Jul 10 (V7N)- The excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup quarter-final between Norway and England has extended beyond the football pitch, with two of the countries' leading airlines engaging in a light-hearted social media challenge.
Ahead of the highly anticipated quarter-final scheduled for July 12, Norway's low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle challenged British Airways to a friendly wager on Instagram.
The Norwegian airline proposed that the losing side would replace its Instagram profile logo with that of the winning airline for one day.
"Ready to bet on the logo?" Norwegian Air wrote in its challenge, adding that if Norway emerged victorious, British Airways would have to use the Norwegian logo for 24 hours. Conversely, Norwegian Air pledged to do the same if England won.
British Airways responded with a playful message: "Don't make a bet you can't win."
The exchange continued as Norwegian Air replied, "So what are you afraid of?"
British Airways then shared an edited image of a Norwegian Air aircraft accompanied by the famous England football slogan, "It's Coming Home."
The online banter concluded with Norwegian Air announcing that British Airways had officially accepted the challenge. British Airways later confirmed on Instagram, writing: "Challenge accepted. But don't be surprised if we win while flying!"
The friendly exchange has attracted widespread attention on social media, adding an entertaining off-field dimension to one of the tournament's most anticipated quarter-final matches.
Norway, led by Erling Haaland, has reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 28 years, while England, ranked fourth in the FIFA world rankings, enters the contest as one of the tournament's favorites.
Football fans will now be watching not only the result on the pitch but also which airline ends up displaying its rival's logo following the final whistle.
