Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal has begun reading the verdict in the case filed against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others accused of committing crimes against humanity during last year’s July uprising.

The three-member judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, started delivering the much-anticipated verdict shortly after 12 noon on Monday. The proceedings are being broadcast live on BTV, Reuters, and the tribunal’s official Facebook page, allowing nationwide and international viewers to follow the announcement in real time.

Accused and Case Background

Alongside Sheikh Hasina, the other accused are:

  • Asaduzzaman Khan, former Home Minister (absconding)

  • Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Inspector General of Police (in custody)

Former IGP Mamun previously provided a statement as a “royal witness”, admitting involvement in the incidents and expressing willingness to testify for the state.

On June 1, prosecutors filed a formal complaint bringing five specific charges, including:

  1. Delivering a provocative speech at Ganabhaban on July 14.

  2. Ordering the use of helicopters, drones and lethal weapons against protesters.

  3. The shooting death of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University.

  4. Killing six protesters at Chankharpul in Dhaka.

  5. Burning six people to death in Ashulia.

Formal charges were framed on July 10, the same day Mamun admitted involvement.
