Netrokona, July 27 (V7N) — Allegations have emerged that the national flag is not being regularly hoisted at the Mendipur Union Land Office in Khaliajuri upazila of Netrokona, raising questions over compliance with government regulations at the public office.
During an on-site visit at around 11:36am on Sunday (July 26), it was found that the national flag had not been displayed on the flagpole of the office building despite official working hours.
At the time, office assistant Md. Masud Rana was present at the office. When asked about the matter, he said, "The flag is not hoisted except on special occasions. This is the practice here."
However, the statement has raised questions as government rules require national flags to be displayed at designated public institutions according to specific guidelines.
Local residents said that during the FIFA World Cup, the Argentina national flag had been displayed on the premises of the land office. They claimed that after Argentina's defeat, no flag has been seen there since.
Residents urged the authorities concerned to ensure greater responsibility and awareness regarding the proper display of the national flag at government offices.
According to office sources, Mendipur Union Assistant Land Officer Murshed Alam is currently attending training and was unavailable for comment.
Khaliajuri Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aliduzzaman said government offices are required to follow established rules regarding the hoisting of the national flag.
"The same rules apply to the Mendipur Union Land Office. We are looking into the matter. If any violation is found after verification, appropriate action will be taken," he said.
The incident has prompted local residents to question whether national flag regulations are being properly followed at government institutions and they have called for an investigation and necessary measures.
