Dhaka, July 28 (V7N)- The High Court will hear the death reference and appeals filed by 16 accused, including former madrasa principal Siraj Ud-Daula, who were sentenced to death in the 2019 murder case of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Sonagazi, Feni.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja will conduct the hearing on Tuesday (July 28).
Earlier, on October 24, 2019, Judge Md. Mamunur Rashid of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni sentenced all 16 accused to death in the Nusrat murder case. The court also fined each convict Tk 1 lakh.
Those sentenced to death include SM Siraj Ud-Daula, the expelled principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa, Md. Ruhul Amin, madrasa student Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain alias Shamim, municipal councilor Maqsud Alam, and others.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire in April 2019 after she accused the then principal Siraj Ud-Daula of sexual harassment. She later died while undergoing treatment, sparking nationwide protests and demands for justice.\
