Rangpur, June 30 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has taken formal cognizance of the murder case of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University and the first martyr of the July uprising. The tribunal also issued arrest warrants against 26 accused, including the former Vice Chancellor of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University (BEROBI) Hasibur Rashid Bachchu, Proctor Shariful Islam, and others from Rangpur.

The order was delivered by the tribunal judge on Monday (June 30).

Earlier in the day, the prosecution submitted a formal complaint naming 30 individuals involved in the murder. Among the accused are police personnel, university administration officials, and leaders of the student organization Chhatra League.

Four of the accused—police officer Amir Hossain, constable Sujan Chandra, former Proctor Shariful Islam, and Imran Chowdhury, Joint General Secretary of the university branch of Chhatra League—are currently in jail. Arrest warrants have been issued for the remaining 26 accused, excluding these four.

The victim’s family had filed the complaint with the tribunal on January 13, demanding justice. After completing the investigation, authorities found substantial evidence against the 30 named individuals.

The case marks a significant step towards accountability in the tragic killing of Abu Sayeed, which shook the nation during the student-public uprising.
