Dhaka, May 20 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has granted bail to popular film actress Nusrat Faria, who was arrested in connection with an attempted murder case filed at Bhatara Police Station during the recent anti-discrimination movement.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman issued the bail order following a hearing on Tuesday morning, where both the prosecution and defense presented their arguments.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui confirmed the court’s decision, saying, "The court granted her bail after reviewing the police submission and the application filed by the defense lawyers."
Nusrat Faria was produced before the court around 9:00 AM and was kept in custody at the CMM Court’s jail until the hearing.
The actress was arrested on Sunday (May 18) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while attempting to fly to Thailand on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. Immigration police stopped her at the airport and later handed her over to the Detective Branch, where she was shown arrested in the case.
On Monday, the court initially ordered her to be sent to jail, based on a petition by Sub-Inspector Billal Bhuiyan, the investigation officer of the case. However, her legal team promptly filed for bail, which was heard and granted today.
The case, filed by complainant Enamul Haque, alleges that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with 283 others linked to her government, and 300–400 unidentified individuals, acted against the anti-discrimination movement. It further claims that the accused, including Nusrat Faria and 16 other showbiz personalities, played a role as financial backers of the Awami League, and were complicit in the attempted murder incident that took place in the Bhatara area.
The case has generated significant public interest, particularly due to the involvement of high-profile entertainment figures and the politically sensitive context surrounding the anti-discrimination protests.
