Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N)- Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has condemned the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, saying that war cannot resolve disputes and that dialogue is the only way forward.
At least 12 people, including two Bangladeshi nationals, were reportedly killed in the attack, while many others were injured.
“Such an attack is an evil deed, and we condemn it. War is not a solution. Whatever the problem may be, it should be resolved through dialogue,” Shafiqur Rahman told journalists after arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday morning.
The Jamaat chief had returned to Bangladesh after a visit to Turkey and performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia. He said he had travelled to Saudi Arabia after completing a two-day visit to Turkey and arrived there on Saturday morning before beginning his return journey to Bangladesh later that night.
Referring to the attack, Shafiqur Rahman highlighted Saudi Arabia's religious significance as the home of the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina, including the Kaaba and the Prophet Muhammad's Mosque.
During his visit to Turkey, he said, he attended an international conference and held a meeting with the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, along with other high-level government and private meetings.
He described Turkey as a longstanding and trusted friend of Bangladesh, noting that relations between the two countries extend back centuries.
Shafiqur Rahman said his main objective in attending the international conference was to highlight Bangladesh's interests and development priorities on the global stage.
He added that discussions with the Turkish government, including matters involving President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's administration, covered several issues related to Bangladesh, including education, the garment sector and the Mecca Pact.
