Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N)- There is no longer a risk of gale-force winds over the North Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh’s coastal areas, prompting authorities to lower the warning signals at the country’s four seaports.
The Meteorological Department announced the decision in a notification signed by meteorologist Hafizur Rahman on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the land depression over Myanmar and the adjacent northeastern Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestward and weakened.
The system had developed into a well-marked low-pressure area over northern Myanmar, southeastern Bangladesh and adjoining areas at 6 am on Wednesday.
The Meteorological Department said the low-pressure system was expected to continue moving north-northwestward and weaken further.
Following the latest assessment, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports were instructed to lower their respective warning signals.
The department said the weakening weather system no longer posed a threat of gale-force winds to the North Bay or the adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.
