Lalmonirhat, Jul 14 (V7N)- The water level of the Teesta River has continued to rise due to heavy rainfall and upstream water flow, creating a risk of flooding in low-lying areas along the riverbanks.

According to the Water Development Board, the Teesta River was flowing 7 centimeters above the danger level at the Dalia Barrage Point in Lalmonirhat at 6:00 am on Tuesday (July 14).

Officials said the rising water level has been caused by increased upstream flow and continuous rainfall. As a result, residents living in riverbank areas and nearby chars have been advised to remain alert.

Lalmonirhat Water Development Board Executive Engineer Shunil Kumar Roy said the situation is being monitored around the clock.

He urged people living near the river and in char areas to avoid unnecessary movement in the river and take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has warned that short-term flooding may occur in some low-lying areas along the Teesta River in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Nilphamari and Kurigram districts within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay prepared for possible changes in water levels.
