Dhaka, Sep 02 (V7N)- Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi has assured State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir that Bangladeshi fuel-carrying vessels will face no obstacles while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The assurance came during a courtesy meeting between the Iranian ambassador and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs at the ministry in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The statement means Bangladesh is expected to remain largely unaffected by the difficulties facing commercial shipping through the strategic waterway amid the ongoing conflict and tensions in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed a range of issues of mutual interest.
Humayun Kabir expressed Bangladesh’s expectation that the ongoing tensions in the region would end quickly and that lasting peace and stability would be established for the benefit of people in the region and beyond.
The Iranian ambassador also discussed the recently proposed Mecca Defense Pact during the meeting.
Jahanabadi said the Mecca Pact is not an alliance directed against Iran and that Tehran would accept an invitation to join if a formal invitation is extended.
He also said Iran has no objection to Bangladesh joining the Mecca Pact.
