Dhaka, Jun 12 (V7N) – A mild earthquake was felt in various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, on Thursday night. The tremor occurred at around 9:40 pm and measured 4.5 on the Richter scale.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake falls into the "mild" category. The agency said the epicenter was located in the India-Bangladesh border region, approximately 290 kilometers northeast of its earthquake monitoring center in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The tremor was felt in several districts across the country, prompting many residents to leave their homes and buildings as a precaution. However, no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were received following the earthquake.
Officials from the Meteorological Department continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to remain calm.
Earlier, on June 8, a stronger earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was felt across Bangladesh. The epicenter of that quake was located near Punakha district in Bhutan, approximately five kilometers from the district center.
