Cox’s Bazar, Sept 04 (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 2.5 lakh yaba tablets in separate operations in Ukhiya and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, arresting one person in connection with the alleged smuggling of the drugs.
In the first operation, personnel of the 64 BGB Battalion recovered 2 lakh yaba tablets abandoned near the Kharangkhali border in Teknaf on Thursday night.
According to BGB, two suspected carriers fled the scene after sensing the presence of the border guards, leaving behind two packets containing the yaba tablets.
In a separate operation early Friday, BGB arrested Md Imran, 34, while he was allegedly attempting to bring yaba tablets from Myanmar through the Palongkhali border disguised as a fisherman.
The border guards recovered 50,000 yaba tablets, a mobile phone and cash from a fish basket in his possession.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul Islam, commander of the 64 BGB Battalion, confirmed the information.
He said intelligence surveillance had been strengthened to identify individuals involved in drug smuggling and prevent cross-border trafficking.
