Dhaka, Oct. 09 (V7N) – Mahdi Hasan, former member secretary of the Habiganj district unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was prevented from travelling abroad at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday night.

Hasan confirmed the incident to the media, saying he was scheduled to travel to Jamaica on an Etihad Airways flight departing at 9:35 p.m. on October 8. However, he was not allowed to leave the country.

He claimed that he had secured bail in all the cases filed against him but was still prevented from travelling abroad. Police advised him to obtain court permission before leaving Bangladesh, after which he left the airport premises, he said.

According to a journalist who cited intelligence officials stationed at the airport, Hasan was stopped by immigration authorities following an objection to his overseas travel. However, no detailed official explanation for the decision was immediately available.

The duty officer at the airport police station also said he had no information about the incident.

Hasan was previously involved in a controversy over remarks made during a confrontation with a police officer in Habiganj in January 2026. He was detained for questioning following the incident, and the student movement's central committee subsequently issued him a show-cause notice. He was later granted bail.

The specific legal or administrative grounds for preventing his latest overseas journey remain unclear.
