Narayanganj, Oct 13 (V7N)- The Special Response Battalion (SRB-11) has arrested alleged top terrorist Sohel Khandaker in Narayanganj city and recovered a foreign-made revolver, live ammunition and heroin from his possession.
Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Masud Parvez confirmed the arrest at a press conference at the SRB office on Monday (October 12) afternoon.
He said an intelligence tip-off prompted a specialised team to conduct an operation in the Missionpara area of Narayanganj city in the early hours of Monday, leading to Khandaker’s arrest.
During the operation, the team recovered a functional foreign-made revolver, five rounds of live ammunition and 70 packets of heroin, according to the battalion.
The SRB said at least 15 cases, including those involving alleged violations of the Arms Act and extortion, had been filed against Khandaker at various police stations.
According to the battalion, he allegedly used intimidation and extortion to establish influence in the area and formed several juvenile gangs to facilitate his drug operations and other criminal activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez said the arrested suspect would be handed over to the court and that investigators would seek remand for further questioning.
He added that operations were underway to identify and arrest other alleged members of the arms and drug network based on information obtained during the investigation.
