Riyadh, October 13 (V7N)- Saudi authorities have decided to keep King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh closed until Saturday, October 17, following a series of attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, disrupting air travel in the Saudi capital.
The suspension has led to an increase in flight cancellations at airports across the country, effectively bringing air traffic in Riyadh to a standstill.
King Khalid International Airport, one of Saudi Arabia’s busiest aviation hubs after Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport, has suspended operations as authorities assess security concerns.
The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority said the decision was taken to protect airport infrastructure and complete the necessary preparations before operations resume.
According to an aviation notice issued on Monday, October 12, the airport will remain closed until 9 pm local time on Saturday, October 17.
The disruption is adding pressure to Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector, which is already facing challenges from the wider conflict across the Middle East and rising jet fuel costs.
Higher fuel prices have also weighed on airline profitability, while the latest attacks have further complicated the operating environment for carriers in the region.
