Dhaka, Jul 07 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the progress of a nation depends not only on economic development but also on building a healthy, skilled and humane population, emphasizing that quality medical education, research and modern healthcare are essential to achieving that goal.
He made the remarks in a message extending greetings and congratulations to the former and current students, teachers, officers and employees of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) on the occasion of its 80th anniversary and 81st founding anniversary.
The Prime Minister said the outstanding contribution made by Dhaka Medical College over the past eight decades to the development of medical education and healthcare in Bangladesh is a matter of national pride.
He added that the government is giving the highest priority to strengthening healthcare services, medical education, research and the development of skilled human resources to further advance the country's health sector.
Tarique Rahman noted that since its establishment on July 10, 1946, Dhaka Medical College has grown into one of the country's leading institutions for medical education and healthcare.
He said the institution has produced countless skilled, compassionate and patriotic physicians who have enhanced Bangladesh's reputation through their professional excellence, leadership and service both at home and abroad.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the teachers, students and alumni of Dhaka Medical College for their contributions to the Language Movement of 1952, the Liberation War of 1971, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, the student-led mass uprising of 2024, as well as their service during national crises, natural disasters and public health emergencies.
He observed that rapid advances in medical science, artificial intelligence, research and healthcare technology are creating new opportunities across the global health sector.
Expressing confidence in the institution's future, Tarique Rahman said Dhaka Medical College would continue to uphold its rich tradition by producing world-class doctors, researchers and healthcare leaders, while making greater contributions to medical research and the overall development of Bangladesh's health sector.
He expressed hope that, building on its 80 years of achievements and the inspiration of its 81st founding anniversary, Dhaka Medical College would continue to set new standards of excellence in education, humanity, research and public service.
