Chattogram, Jul 07 (V7N) — Rail communication between Cox's Bazar and the rest of the country has been suspended after continuous rainfall and waterlogging submerged railway tracks in the Sholashahar area of Chattogram, disrupting train services on Tuesday.
According to railway officials, the Tourist Express, which departed Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka at 6:15 a.m. carrying more than 650 passengers, was forced to stop near Sholashahar at around 1:30 p.m.
Officials said heavy rainfall caused water to accumulate on the railway tracks, prompting the train driver to halt the service to prevent water from entering the locomotive and avoid the risk of mechanical failure or an accident. The train was later taken back to Sholashahar Railway Station.
Meanwhile, the Prabal Express, travelling from Cox's Bazar to Chattogram, was also stranded at Dohazari Railway Station after trees fell onto the railway line.
Railway authorities said train services would resume once floodwaters recede, fallen trees are cleared and the overall situation returns to normal.
Chattogram has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past two days under the influence of an active monsoon system, causing widespread waterlogging and disruption to transportation across several parts of the city.
