Kabul, Jul 07 (V7N) — Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran has passed away after a prolonged illness, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed on Tuesday. He was 39 years old.
According to reports, Zadran had been suffering from hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and serious disorder affecting the immune system. He died just one day before his 40th birthday.
In a statement, the Afghanistan Cricket Board expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
"It is with profound sadness and grief that we mourn the passing of former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran," the ACB said.
Zadran first fell ill in Afghanistan in October last year. He was later taken to New Delhi, India, where he had been undergoing treatment.
One of the pioneers of modern Afghan cricket, Zadran played a significant role in the country's rise on the international stage. The left-arm fast bowler represented Afghanistan in both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), earning recognition for his pace, aggression and match-winning performances.
His contributions helped Afghanistan establish itself as a competitive force in international cricket during its formative years.
The Afghanistan cricket community has paid tribute to Zadran, remembering him as one of the architects of the nation's remarkable journey in world cricket.
