Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N) – Chief Advisor of Bangladesh Dr. Muhammad Yunus paid tribute to Sharif Osman Hadi, describing him as an icon of protest energized by revolutionary blood. In a national address on Thursday evening, Dr. Yunus highlighted Hadi’s dedication to patriotism, courage, and steadfastness through his actions.
Dr. Yunus informed the nation that Hadi, a fearless fighter in the July mass uprising and spokesperson of Inquilab Manch, passed away while receiving treatment in Singapore. “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un,” he said, expressing profound grief.
The Chief Advisor stated that he received the devastating news directly from Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who also personally oversaw Hadi’s treatment. Dr. Yunus expressed gratitude toward the Singaporean government and Minister Balakrishnan for their professionalism and care.
Acknowledging Hadi as a martyr in the struggle against fascism and imperialism, Dr. Yunus offered prayers for his soul and extended condolences to his grieving wife, family, and colleagues. The government will assume responsibility for Hadi’s widow and only child.
In response to this loss, Dr. Yunus announced a one-day state mourning on Saturday. All government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, educational establishments, and Bangladesh missions abroad will fly the national flag at half-mast. Special prayers for Hadi’s soul will be held in mosques nationwide after Friday prayers, and similar observances will be arranged in other religious institutions.
The Chief Advisor vowed that all perpetrators involved in Hadi’s assassination will be brought swiftly to justice and punished to the fullest extent of the law. He called on citizens to maintain patience and restraint, assuring that law enforcement and relevant agencies are conducting professional investigations.
Dr. Yunus emphasized that Hadi’s voice had challenged fascist terror and that attempts to intimidate revolutionaries would ultimately fail. “No one can halt the democratic progress of this country through fear, terror, or bloodshed,” he affirmed.
Highlighting Hadi’s commitment to Bangladesh’s democratic transition, Dr. Yunus noted that Hadi had intended to actively participate in the upcoming elections to shape the nation’s future. His unfulfilled vision now rests on the responsibility of the entire nation. Citizens are urged to advance with patience, courage, and foresight to defeat anti-democratic forces decisively.
Concluding his address, Dr. Yunus called for unity, adherence to democratic values, and the promotion of justice in honor of Hadi’s sacrifice, urging citizens to resist rumors, provocations, and divisive forces.
