Chapainawabganj, Dec 11 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reported the recovery of the body of a Bangladeshi man inside Indian territory, across the Bakher Ali border in Chapainawabganj. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Toshikur Islam, son of Ibrahim Ali from Bakher Ali Pashchimpara in Charbagdanga Union.

According to BGB officials, Indian police recovered the body from the Bhagirathi River, approximately eight kilometers inside India. However, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has not acknowledged any involvement in the incident.

BGB’s 53 Battalion Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, said the family had lodged a missing person complaint after Toshikur had been unaccounted for over the past three days. He stated that Indian police collected the floating body from the river, though the circumstances of his death remain unclear. The BGB has formally notified BSF, and the process of repatriating the body through a flag meeting is underway.

The family of the deceased alleged that BSF personnel detained Toshikur after he crossed the border and then shot him dead before dumping the body in the river. Local sources echoed similar claims, adding that Toshikur had been involved in cross-border cattle smuggling, which may have led to the fatal incident. They claimed that after being shot, his body drifted into the Bhagirathi River, where Indian police from Jangipur Police Station eventually recovered it.

BSF has not issued any statement confirming or denying the allegations.

The incident has created tension along the border, with residents demanding a transparent investigation and calling for stronger measures to prevent cross-border violence.
