Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- The interim government has clarified that the Advisory Council will continue to function and hold meetings regularly until the elected government assumes office.

The clarification came through a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Advisor on Monday (October 27), following confusion created by earlier remarks from Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam.

The government statement explained that Mahfuz Alam’s comments at the Dhaka Reporters Unity’s “Meet the Reporters” program on Sunday (October 26) were misinterpreted in the media, leading to speculation about the council’s term.

“It is not correct to say that the reform and policy formulation activities undertaken by the government must be completed by November. The reform process will continue in full swing,” the statement said.

It further added, “The Advisory Council will continue to perform its duties regularly until the elected government takes over, and its meetings will also be held as usual.”

At the DRU event, Mahfuz Alam had mentioned that the Advisory Council meetings would end in November, as the cabinet’s final sessions were expected to conclude before the Election Commission takes charge. He explained that certain reform initiatives under the Media Reform Commission—including 13 out of 23 urgent proposals—were being implemented within the interim government’s timeline.

“These are not major issues,” Mahfuz Alam said. “But our time frame was three months, and now only about one month remains. Once the Election Commission takes charge in November, cabinet meetings will likely not be held again.”

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, was also present at the DRU event.
